PM-HSS / Powder High Speed Steel
Powder high-speed steel has a finer and more uniform material structure, which can further improve the wear resistance and edge retention of cutting tools.
Common heat treatment hardness can reach approximately HRC 67, with actual values varying depending on the material grade, heat treatment, and manufacturing process.
For mass production, difficult-to-machine materials, or thread machining requiring a balance between toughness and wear resistance, PM-HSS can be further evaluated. If wear resistance is the primary consideration and powder high-speed steel has a hardness as high as HRC68~HRC70, its toughness will be significantly reduced. In this case, tungsten carbide with HRA89~HRA91 can be further considered, and its toughness is comparable to powder high-speed steel (refer to the heat treatment hardness and toughness comparison table for high-speed steel materials). Tungsten carbide has certain advantages in the high-performance, high-hardness, and wear-resistant tool market.
