Ferrous Metals | Stainless Steel Series

SUS304 & SUS316L Stainless Steel
SUS304 is a common austenitic stainless steel.
Main features:
• Corrosion resistant

• Good toughness

• Wide range of industrial applications

• Widely used in food, equipment, mechanical parts, etc.
SUS316L is a low-carbon austenitic stainless steel containing molybdenum, and the carbon content is usually controlled in a low range.
Main features:
• Excellent corrosion resistance

• Good welding characteristics

• Suitable for highly corrosive environments

Thread processing characteristics
Chips may look like:
• long strip
Things to note when threading:
• Material adhesion

• Material hardness

• Work hardening

• Cutting heat

• Chip removal

• Tool wear

• Thread surface quality

SUS630 Stainless Steel
SUS630 is a martensitic precipitation-hardening stainless steel (commonly known as 17-4 PH), combining extremely high strength, hardness, and good corrosion resistance.

Key Characteristics:

• High Strength and Hardness: Mechanical strength can be significantly improved through heat treatment (age hardening).

• Corrosion Resistance: Better corrosion resistance than typical martensitic stainless steels (such as SUS410), performing well in many environments.

• Machining and Welding: Easy to machine in the solution-treated state, with good weldability, but post-weld heat treatment is usually required.

• International Comparison: Japanese JIS standard is SUS630, American AISI/ASTM standard is 17-4 PH (UNS S17400).

Thread Machining Characteristics
Chips may be:

• Long and thin

Considerations during thread machining:

• Material adhesion

• Work hardening

• Tool wear

• Chip removal

• Thread surface quality
